This has to be the most fun we’ve had on a project. When EA approached us about producing a video for The Sims video game for EA Play Live, all they needed to say was “…singing to cows” and we were in. Then they told us Japanese Breakfast signed on and we were double in.
Since we shot during COVID, we set up a livestream of our A and B camera feeds for the EA team, as well as real-time proxy uploads. This allowed each person on the EA team to review shots individually at their leisure, and for our editor to start putting together a cut offsite, as we shot.
We sourced 8 cows for the shoot, and since we all agreed the more cows the better, we duplicated the cows with VFX for a few shots. We also used VFX to dial in the timing of a few cow shots. It’s a good idea to be flexible when filming with animals and having the ability to polish timing with VFX is always helpful.
We delivered a 30 second spot that premiered at EA Play Live as the show opener. EA and the Mirth and Merriment teams were having so much fun during the post process that the 60 second cut took a sanctioned left turn into music video land. We’re extremely proud of this project. It was a true collaboration between us and the EA creative team.
